IEI Endorses ASCE’s Vision 2025




As we know that Institution of Engineers( India) is one of the big organisation in the world. Institution of Engineers having bilateral agreement with other international bodies.

Brief Info About ASCE

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is a professional body founded in 1852 to represent members of the civil engineering profession worldwide. It is the oldest national engineering society in the United States. ASCE's vision is to have engineers positioned as global leaders who strive toward building a better quality of life. Its world headquarters is in Reston, Virginia.

ASCE was founded in New York City on November 5, 1852 when twelve engineers met at the offices of the Croton Aqueduct and formed the American Society of Civil Engineers and Architects. ASCE was the first national engineering society created in the United States. In 1869 the "and Architects" part was dropped from the name, after the architects formed their own society American Institute of Architects in 1857.

As part of understanding the history of civil engineering and promoting the civil engineering profession, a survey of the historic accomplishments of civil engineers is continually conducted by ASCE members. Such reviews of civil engineering accomplishments have produced various lists of the notable categories and projects of the profession.





Ms Kathy J Caldwell, President, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), accompanied by Mr Patrick J Natale, Executive Director of ASCE; Ms Meggan Maughan-Brown, Director, International Relations and Strategic Planning, ASCE; Mr Pratim K Ghose and Dr Himansu K Banerjee, Region 10 Governors of ASCE; Dr Anil Krishna Kar and Prof S K Das, President and Secretary, ASCE (India Section), respectively; Mr Sandip K Deb of Student Affairs, ASCE (India Section) and Dr Ayanangshu Dey, Event Co-ordinator, visited IEI Headquarters on June 02, 2011. Mr G Prabhakar, President; Maj Gen R K Sanan, VSM (Retd), Secretary and Director General; Mr S K Banerjee, Member of IEI Council; Mr Amitabha Ghoshal, Vice President, STUP Consultants Pvt Ltd, Kolkata; Mr Anil Kumar, Deputy Director General; Maj Gen R K Sanan, VSM (Retd) the  invited attention of the august gathering to a short film presentation on IEI which narrates the history of IEI and its multifaceted involvement in the advancement of engineering profession in the country. Thereafter Ms Kathy J Caldwell,
President ASCE, presented the ASCE's Vision for Civil Engineering 2025 to IEI for endorsement. After due deliberation, The Institution of Engineers (India) endorsed the ASCE's Vision for Civil Engineering 2025



Dr Partha Bose, Director (Technical) and Mr Anoop Kumar, Deputy Director (International Cell) were present on the occasion from the IEI side. At the outset, Maj Gen R K Sanan, VSM (Retd) extended a hearty welcome to the ASCE delegation and expressed gratitude to Ms Kathy J Caldwell for her gracious presence at the IEI Headquarters. Mr G Prabhakar then presented Ms Kathy J Caldwell and Mr Patrick J Natale with flower bouquets, which was followed by a round of self-introduction by the members present. Mr G Prabhakar, in his opening address, welcomed the ASCE President and her team to IEI and mentioned about the close association between ASCE and IEI in the past. Mr Prabhakar also hoped that the discussions would benefit both the organizations. On the occasion, it was also proposed that the Agreement of Co-operation between ASCE and IEI, which was signed on November 19, 2008 and was due for renewal having a validity of three years, be renewed. Accordingly, the renewed Agreement of Co-operation was also signed. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Maj Gen R K Sanan, VSM (Retd) followed by presentation of gifts by the President, IEI and subsequently a group photograph.
