8.Can you suggest you books for AMIE exams?
As per syllabus of AMIE, Single book will not cover entire syllabus. You have to arrange various books.

If you have plenty of time to make notes and scan through various books then try to purchase books which are being used in local engg college (Do not use those books which are being used in IIT or written by foreign authors). Use books of desi writers.

If you are a busy person and have no time to make notes etc. then you can join excellent postal course by AMIE(I) Study Circle. You can download their prospectus at http://www.amiestudycircle.com/

9.I am presently doing Diploma. Can I do AMIE?
If you have passed 10+2 in PCME with min 45% marks then you may apply for AMIE in non diploma stream. In this stream you have to pass 19 subjects as opposed to 13 subjects for Diploma holders.

We strongly suggest to apply for AMIE only after passing Diploma (not in midway).

13.Can an AMIE person appear in the govt. exam where equivalent to BE/B.TECH is not written. and is it valid in all govt. sector like NTPC, ONGC etc ?
AMIE is recognised by Govt. of India and is valid for IES, UPSC, GATE, IES and Govt Jobs (where Eq. B.Tech degree is also mentioned). An AMIE person can only apply in those Govt exams where Eq. to B.E./B.Tech is written. As AMIE is not equal to B.Tech (it is equivalent. to B.Tech), it can not be compared with regular B.Tech. AMIE is basically done by diploma holders who are engaged in job and can not go for regular B.Tech. Selecting an AMIE or regular B.Tech is wholly a matter of management of a private or public sector company. AMIE basically helps in getting promotions and pursue higher education (M. Tech).

14.Can I appear for GATE soon after completing AMIE or I need to wait certain period after completion of AMIE ?
You can appear soon after passing Section A of AMIE exams. However, you should apply for GATE only after passing section B. For more details on GATE exams after AMIE, log on to http://www.amiestudycircle.com/highereducation.htm

Please see following table for different grades of membership.

16.How many Subjects are there in Section B?
9 subjects. Out of these 6 are compulsory and 3 are optional.

 For syllabus, visit http://www.amiestudycircle.com/

17.Is AMIE really tough?
No. It is not tough, it seems so.

Most of AMIE aspirants are in job unlike regular B Tech students. Hence, an AMIE aspirant has very little time (about 2 hours at the most) to prepare whereas a B Tech student has 8 to 10 hours flat for studies. Syllabus is same.

A consistent and well managed study will give you best results.

18.Is there any coaching institute (classroom) available for AMIE exams?
There is no organised classroom coaching available for preparation of AMIE exams. Reason is very simple, most of AMIE aspirants are in jobs and hence no time in working days to attend classes. For tutions, you have to make your own search to find a good teacher (a polytechnic teacher will be best for fundamentals, an M Tech/Ph.D student will give you best services).

However, you may visit a forum AMIE India to search classroom courses for AMIE exams. Click at

19.Is there any M Tech (by distance learning mode) program after B Tech?
IEI conduscts PG Diploma (Eq. to M Tech).
