The Qatar Chapter of IEI commenced the Project 5S for the year 2011

The Qatar Chapter of the Institution of Engineers (India) commenced the Project 5S ( School Students Struggle for Sustainability and to Save Environment) for the year 2011, on October 22, 2011 at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Doha. Six schools namely, Birla Public School, Delhi Public School, Doha Modern Indian School, MES Indian School , Ideal Indian School and Shantiniketan Indian School participated in the Leg 1 of the event, which consisted of multiple choice exams and Quiz Contest. The Quiz contests were conducted by the esteemed guests like, Ms. Sana Kays, Dr.John Bryant, Er.Subrato Mukherjee and Er. Arif Zaher. The Quiz was preceded by a technical presentation on environmental scenario and protection by Dr. Tapas Bandhypadhyay, a Senior Environmentalist. He briefed the students on the recent technologies like nanotechnology and the green building systems to combat the environmental threats. Er. Animesh Sarkar, Chairman of the Qatar Chapter of the Institution, welcomed the gathering and urging the students to take part in the competition with full spirit and to join the world in the endeavour to save the environment. Er. Seenu Pillai gave a brief presentation on the conduction of Project 5S 2011 for all the three legs. Dr. Abdul Hameed , Project Manager of the Project 5S-2011, compered and conducted the event. Vote of thanks was proposed by the executive committee member Er. Abdul Sathar. This environmental program and competition called Project 5S (School Students Struggle for Sustainability and to Save Environment) for the school students was initiated and conducted by the Institution in 2010 under the advice, support and guidance of the Ambassador of India, Her Excellency Mrs. Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa. The highlight of the last years project was the reusing of 8000 kg of school text books by the seven Indian schools in Qatar, which saved 136 mature trees.
