The Chief Guest, Padma Shri S Ramakrishnan, Director, Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre, ISRO, Thiruvananthapuram, inaugurated the Convention by lighting the lamp and presented the inaugural address. 



The Jharkhand State centre of the Institution organized the 25th National Convention of Aerospace Engineers and National Seminar on the theme ‘Indian Aerospace Programme: Technological Challenges Beyond 2020’, during November 04-05, 2011, at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi. Mr Ramakrishnan said that Indian Aerospace Industry is undergoing a paradigm shift from technology importers to that of equitable technology collaborators. He said that today India has become a well established player in space science and enjoys a good position in the international market as a remote sensing product supplier. Mr S R Vijayamohanakumar, Chairman, Aerospace Engineering Division Board, praised the Jharkhand State Centre for its effort in organizing the National Convention of Aerospace Engineers in a befitting manner. He also informed the audience about the upcoming activities of the Aerospace Engineering Division Board of the Institution. The prestigious Dr Vikram Sarabhai Memorial Lecture was delivered by the Chief Guest, Padma Shri S Ramakrishnan on the topic “Earth to Orbit - The Crucial First Step in Accessing Space”. A souvenir and soft copy of the proceedings were also released on this occasion by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries on the dais. The ‘IEI Young Engineers Award’ in Aerospace Engineering Division for the year 2011 was presented to Dr Mira Mitra, Assistant Professor, Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Bombay, in absentia, for her outstanding contribution in the field of Aerospace Engineering. Earlier, Mr A K Saxena, Past Chairman, Jharkhand State Centre of the Institution, welcomed the august gathering. Dr J K Prasad, Organizing Secretary, while elaborating the theme of the National Seminar said that India would be a superpower by 2020 and Aerospace Industry has a major role to play. Mr Indranil Sen, Honorary Secretary, Jharkhand State Centre, proposed the Vote of Thanks. A large number of papers on various sub-themes were presented and discussed during technical sessions.
