The Institution of Engineers ( India ) provides wide range of membership T for 10+2 passed students ST for Diploma holder students. Abridged Eligibility Guidelines for the Corporate Membership of IE ( I ) is given below.
Qualifications
Qualifications accredited by the Institution and included in the rules and syllabi shall be accepted for various classes of Membership. Other qualifications may be accepted in consultation with the Equivalence Committee. In case of persons having passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations, period of experience shall be reckoned from the date of passing Section A Examination subject to a maximum one year prior to the passing of Section B Examination.
Employment
‘Position of responsibility’ in the profession of engineering may, in general, be taken to start from the post of Assistant Engineer (Junior Engineer for States where it is the initial appointment in some parts of the country) in Government Departments; Second Lieutenant in the Army, or equivalent position in the Navy and the Air Force; Assistant Lecturer in Engineering Colleges; Lecturer in Polytechnics; and equivalent posts in other organizations. Post-qualification experience of 10 years in such post shall be considered for Membership (MIE) and 5 years for Associate Membership (AMIE).
In case of engineers holding relatively lower position of responsibility like Sub-Engineer, Supervisor, Overseer, etc, experience of 12 years in such post shall be considered for Membership (MIE).
‘Position of High Responsibility’ (Bye-law 46 (ii)) may, in general, be taken to start from the post of Superintending Engineer in Government Departments; Lieutenant Colonel in the Army or equivalent position in the Navy and the Air Force; Professor in Engineering Colleges; Associate Professor in the Universities / IITs; Principal in Polytechnics, and equivalent posts in other organizations. Post-qualification experience of 15 years in such post shall be considered for Fellowship (FIE).
In case the applicant holds the post of Executive Engineer / Reader / Assistant Professor or equivalent without a postgraduate qualification in engineering for a minimum period of 8 years with total experience of 20 years, he/she shall be considered for Fellowship (FIE).
In case the applicant holds the post of Executive Engineer / Reader / Assistant Professor or equivalent with postgraduate qualification in engineering for a minimum period of 6 years with total experience of 18 years,he/she hall be considered for Fellowship (FIE).
In case the applicant holds the post of Executive Engineer / Reader / Assistant Professor or equivalent with PhD qualification in engineering for a minimum period of 4 years with total experience of 16 years, he/she shall be considered for Fellowship (FIE).
In case of self-employed persons / Consultants where the designation does not convey the status of responsibility, the period of experience for consideration of their applications for various classes of Corporate Membership shall be 5 years for Associate Membership; 12 years for Membership and 20 years for Fellowship. However, each and individual case shall be considered on merit by the Membership Committee.
In case of private industries / organizations, the level of designation shall be ascertained with respect to the hierarchy in their respective industry / organization.
