Info About AMIE Program And Syllabus

The course contents are structured in a very similar manner to the course contents that are presented in the Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technical Studies study streams. However, the notable exemption being that the AMIE structure is much more relaxed and with less subjects which allows the students to study and complete the course in a less rigid study environment while even facilitating the opportunity to gain professional qualifications for the working engineering students.

Standard of syllabus curriculum of AMIE
The study curriculum and course material at AMIE are developed and prepared by the most top professionals of the field who possess a commendable length of teaching experience out of which a substantial period had been spent exclusively on teaching AMIE students. The syllabus and curriculum has been developed to the highest standards incorporating all the latest trends and developments in the field of engineering. The entire curriculum is written in easy simple language enabling the students to continue self studies in a self explanatory style.

Most important features of AMIE syllabus
  • The syllabus is developed solely in par with current standards
  • It covers all key aspects in a branch in detail
  • Structured to suit & facilitate the study systems of the employed students
  • Inclusive of all previous examination questions
  • Simple and easy to follow user friendly language
  • Structured with the aim of facilitating passes for students at first attempt

Section A Course contents
The number of subjects a student will have to undertake will depend on the study stream he or she belongs to. If the student is under the diploma stream he / she will be required to undertake four subjects while the non diploma students are expected to undertake a number of ten subjects.
The subjects that are listed for examination under Section A under Non-Diploma Stream are Given Below:
  1. Engineering fundamentals for design and manufacturing
  2. Mechanical Science and related information
  3. Material Science and Engineering
  4. Engineering related physics and chemistry
  5. Computing, technology and informatics
  6. Society and environment aspects
  7. Engineering related drawing and graphical studies
  8. Engineering Mathematics
  9. Electronics, instruments and related areas
  10. Electrical Science

The students who have registered as diploma students will not undertake all above subjects and will only have to undertake the exams in the following subjects:
  1. Engineering fundamentals for design and manufacturing
  2. Computing, technology and informatics
  3. Material Science and Engineering
  4. Society and environment aspects

Section B Course contents
Upon successful accomplishment of the Section A examinations of all eligible subjects a student will be able to pursue the AMIE program by taking the level two or final level equivalent of Section B examination, In order to this the student now has to select his or her desired avenue of study and select an engineering branch accordingly. There are a range of engineering branches that is categories under Section B for selection by the students.
Engineering branches available in Section B
  1. Electrical Engineering
  2. Electronics, communication and related engineering aspects
  3. Computer science and technology engineering
  4. Civil Engineering
  5. Production Engineering
  6. Mechanical Engineering
  7. Chemical engineering and related aspects
  8. Mining Engineering and related aspects
  9. Material and Metallurgical Engineering
  10. Architectural Engineering
  11. Textile Engineering and related aspects

A student may select any one of the above streams as the specializing branch and could henceforth pursue a career in the related filed of his or her choice. The student may not specifically follow the same stream of subjects he had undertaken during the Diploma course and therefore may opt to follow a different branch of engineering if the student wishes so.  This is yet another benefit offered by the program when compared to other existing similar study programs.

The Diploma as well as Non Diploma students in AMIE should undertake to study a minimum of nine subjects from the above selection and while six subjects will be given on a compulsory basis the student will have choice of selecting the other three subjects according to their preference. Knowledge and experience on a practical level will be garnered through the programs project laboratory and related work which includes on the job activities. A student has the facility to carry out the practical and project work at the same company or engineering situation for which is currently engaged as an assistant or working student. The pre-requisite of laboratory training could be obtained through the IEI as the Institute will make arrangements to connect the student with the closest available relevant authorities such as technical institutions or an engineering college engaged in laboratory work to carry out the necessary project work that is related to the course contents. A COST OF Rs. 1000.00 will be charged from the student for the services provided by the relevant institution or college.

Therefore a Diploma stream student will be able to complete the course by attending to a total number of thirteen subjects consisting of only four in the Section A and nine in Section B. However, the non diploma level students will have to face a complete number of nineteen subjects including ten in Section A and the nine subjects to be undertaken in Section B, which explains the longer time period taken for a non diploma level student to complete the entire program. The IEI has taken all possible steps in order to cover all aspects related to the entire study program of the AMIE.
